While he was one of the essential faces of television in the 1970s and 1980s, Jean-Claude Bourret is much rarer in the media today. At the age of 83, he devotes himself to writing. Invited to speak about his new life in the columns of Sunday Recently, the retired journalist has made no secret of his prosperous years spent on television. The one who presented the very first color news from the channel that revealed him to the general public, TF1, had no trouble revealing that he was earning a lot of money at the time.

“I had the immense luck of knowing the time when we didn’t wonder if we were going to get 5 million viewers… Because we got between 12 and 20 every evening!”he declared. Before going into details: “I earned the equivalent of 6,000 euros per month. And when Berlusconi offered me 12,000 to come and create La Cinq, TF1 offered me up to 150,000, with driver and unlimited expenses. For me who still kept the pigs a few months before, it was surreal!”. But Jean-Claude Bourret has little desire for profit: “As money has never been my motivation, I chose La Cinq; and I pushed my friend Jean-Pierre Pernaut to take my place”.

Comments which confirm those he made on the set of Jordan de Luxe during the Christmas holidays. “I receive a comfortable pension of more than 3,000 euros and that’s enough to live on, you know when you’re 83 you don’t have a lot of needs”he revealed. And to those who celebrated their 83rd candle last July to remember: “I refused 150,000 euros per month offered by Mr. Bouygues (…) Money is not my primary motivation”.

Absent from television screens for a long time, Jean-Claude Bourret today devotes himself to writing – he has published no less than 27 books – and is passionate about various social subjects such as UFOs and extraterrestrials, of which he is passionate and convinced of existence.

Recently, the former TF1 news presenter published a comic strip about Notre-Dame. Moreover, he assures our colleagues of France Sunday : “Intellectually” he goes “Alright”. “Physically, let’s say that I no longer run the 100 meters in 12 seconds!”he quipped.
