Not everything is always rosy in Hollywood. While some actors also become friends outside of their work, others hate each other as much as two antagonistic characters. This is the case of Harrison Ford and another actor who has been angry with him for over 30 years…

When Harrison Ford steals the show from Alec Baldwin

It’s hard not to know Harrison Ford as his roles are among the most iconic in the history of cinema. If he played in a lot of films during his career, it was all the same for those of Indiana Jones and Han Solo (in Star Wars) that he is particularly remembered. But in addition to these two iconic characters, he also played another character from a now famous franchise: the CIA agent Jack Ryan. If this name means something to you, it’s certainly thanks to the series of the same name broadcast on Amazon Prime Video from 2018 to 2023. But before John Krasinski played the character, there was also Chris Pine, Ben Affleck , and therefore Harrison Ford.

Except that even though Harrison Ford played Jack Ryan in the films The Secret World of Spying, War games et Immediate dangerhe is not the first actor to have played this character in the cinema. In 1990, it was indeed Alec Baldwin who had this privilege for the film Chasing Red October. So when the studios finally decided to part with him to give the role to Harrison Ford, suffice to say that Baldwin didn’t take it very well.

Alec Baldwin is not about to forgive Harrison Ford

When the film Chasing Red October worked very well and there was talk of making sequels, Alec Baldwin already saw himself reprising the title role. However, after deafening silence from the studios, he called the director John McTiernan who revealed to him that they were in full negotiations with another very famous actor. The latter had abandoned another film to be able to take the role of Jack Ryan, and the studios had promised him a very large sum. John McTierman then asked Alec Baldwin to step aside to let the other actor, Harrison Ford, take over. Ironically, the two actors had previously shared the screen in the film Working Girl.

Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October

25 years later, in 2017, Alec Baldwin had not forgotten this story. In his memoirs, he recounts that director John McTiernan later asked Harrison Ford if he felt guilty about stealing the role of Baldwin, to which the Indiana Jones interpreter replied “We don’t care about him!”. Several years later, while the story dated 30 years ago, Baldwin crossed paths with Ford again at a charity gala. He then declared “Ford is a small, thin, wiry man, and his hushed voice sounds like it’s coming from behind a door.” An unflattering description that could almost have been found in a Taylor Swift song, but which sounds much less good coming from the mouth of a man indicted last year for manslaughter following events that took place during the filming of his last movie Rust.
