The visionary director of “Twin Peaks” and “Mulholland Drive” has died of emphysema at the age of 78. The filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who gave him a small role but what a role in “The Fabelmans” paid tribute to him.

He had been ill for many months, suffering from emphysema, a serious lung disease which eventually took his life. Many filmmakers have paid tribute to him, from James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) to Ali Abbasi (“The Apprentice”), including Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Circle of Snow”). But the most beautiful, strongest, most symbolic tribute is certainly that of Steven Spielberg. The director of “Indiana Jones”, “ET” and “Jurassic Park” had entrusted him with a sublime role in “The Fabelmans”, his very personal film about his love of cinema, that of the legendary filmmaker John Ford.
