During a meeting at the Palais des Congrès in Nouakchott, Ousmane Sonko, Prime Minister of Senegal, promised to significantly improve the conditions of stay of Senegalese living in Mauritania, even if this will not solve all the problems. He appealed to nationals to actively participate in these efforts.
Sonko shared that the Mauritanian authorities are committed to making it easier to obtain the residence permit, essential for foreigners in Mauritania. “The Mauritanian authorities will reduce the costs necessary to obtain it, if not making it free,” said the Prime Minister, regarding the requirements currently perceived as too complex by the Senegalese associations there.
The leaders of the associations exposed the difficulties linked to the absence of this document, making life and work difficult for foreigners. In response, Sonko stressed the importance of identifying foreigners, like what is done in Senegal, and promised results in the coming weeks.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Mauritanian President El Ghazouani, for his commitment to the stay of Senegalese in Mauritania. The latter assured, during a meeting with Yassine Fall, Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, to facilitate the conditions of stay.
In his speech, Sonko also insisted on respect for local laws by nationals abroad, while ensuring that they closely monitor their living conditions thanks to reports from ambassadors. According to APS, the Prime Minister arrived in Nouakchott for a two-day official visit focused mainly on energy, transport, security and migration issues.
This Senegalese delegation, led by Sonko, includes several ministers such as those responsible for African Integration, the Interior, and the energy sector, among others, accompanied by directors of major institutions. Together, they aim to strengthen bilateral relations during this friendship and working visit.
