This Sunday, in Los Angeles, the Foreign Press Association rewarded the best productions on the small and big screen. All the Hollywood elite gathered to discover the winners of this 2025 edition. Unsurprisingly, it is Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard who stood out in several categories. The musical film which immortalizes the transition of a former Mexican drug trafficker walked away with four trophies, including best comedy/musical film and that of the best non-English language production. Emiliza Perez once again dethrones Hollywood. From Parasite in 2019, more and more foreign productions are doing well during American ceremonies. This is all the more true as it was up against another production directed by a French woman: The Substance. The body horror walked away with the title of best actress in a comedy or musical. Demi Moore, long labeled a “popcorn actress”, was acclaimed for her performance in Coline Fargeat’s film. Moreover, we can note the triumph of The Brutalist promised for February 12 on our screens.

On the series side, Shōgun unsurprisingly stood out. Disney was wrong in transforming its limited series into a recurring production. Anna Sawai won the title of best actress in a drama series. She won against Emma D’Arcy for House of the DragonKeira Knightley dans Black Doves or Maya Erskine in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Hiroyuki Sanada did the same, surpassing Donald Glover (Mr. & Mrs. Smith.), Jake Gyllenhaal ( Presumed Innocent) and Eddie Redmayne (The Day of the Jackal). If Netflix did not win the title of best drama series, or even that of best comedy, Mon Petit Renne unsurprisingly stood out in the limited series category. Jessica Gunning even won the award for best lead actress in a miniseries. Finally, we can note that the Foreign Press Association was sensitive to Colin Farrell’s performance for The Penguin. The actor stood out under the mask of the criminal and beat Andrew Scott (Ripley), Cooper Cook (Monsters season 2) and even Richard Gadd (My Little Reindeer). Here is the list of winners, which is an indicator for the Oscars ceremony which will take place on March 3.
