The broadcast of Meghan Markle's luxury cooking show was considered inappropriate by several commentators, given the current economic crisis.

As her new cooking show, “With Love, Meghan,” prepares to premiere on Netflix on January 15, Meghan Markle faces criticism for the luxury displayed, in the context of difficult economic times. “The type of cuisine she offers will not speak to those who cannot afford such products. A lot of people are suffering, it's a difficult time, in general. I'm not sure what we're going to think of a star in a white dress, not even wearing an apron, putting this whole thing together,” royal expert and author Hugo Vickers told The Sun.

For her part, royal historian Tessa Dunlop also criticized the show in an interview with the Mirror, confiding: “Seriously, a reality series where one of the richest women in the world claims to teach us “ little tips and tricks” for our daily lives? Seeing her wander around her sun-drenched vegetable garden, retro basket in hand, and tending to designer hives overflowing with honey, it's laughable for the majority of people, it's so out of their reach.

A lucrative partnership

Focused on simple and delicious recipes in the company of celebrities like Prince Harry, Mindy Kaling, or Abigail Spencer (his former co-star in “Suits”), the show was not filmed in the royal couple's house in Montecito. Instead, a lavish $6.2 million property across the street in a private community owned by the Cipolla family served as the setting. This home, with its eight acres of land, embodies an opulence that some have found inappropriate, particularly because of the kitchen equipment used, the value of which exceeds $20,000.

Despite these criticisms, many fans of the Duchess of Sussex welcomed the teaser for the eight-episode series shared on social networks two days after the start of the year 2025. “Meghan's personality shines brightly. This will be a great opportunity to discover it better!” wrote one user, while another added: “Oh my God, I already love it!”

The program notably marks a new stage in the partnership between Prince Harry, his wife and the streaming platform, which is soon to expire. It also seems to be part of Meghan Markle's lifestyle ambitions, several months after the launch of her brand “American Riviera Orchard”.
