Marcel Canet took his first steps in the cinema in 2023 by playing young Asterix, played as an adult by his father, in Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom. On January 10, we can discover it in more depth on Netflix in To Lifeby Rodolphe Lauga, always alongside his father Guillaume Canet.

At 13, Marion Cotillard’s son therefore confirms his taste for the game, “closely monitored” by his parents, as Guillaume Canet testified on January 4 in the show 50’Inside. Indeed, the filmmaker believes that “it’s a bit young to start”.

“He really wanted it”

Enough to cause a lot of cold sweats for the actor father, who himself had to face major challenges for the film such as four months of physical preparation with handling weapons and learning to recall despite his vertigo. A shoot which therefore proved to be “extremely stressful” on different levels despite the strong desire of his son.

“From the moment he wants it, we have to put our foot down. And I preferred that it happened with me,” explains the one who fears the pitfalls of the environment. “It’s still a very difficult job, which requires you to question yourself often. There are times when we take buckets of shit, we can say that. It can be hard to take sometimes. »

Fortunately, both parents of the apprentice actor are able to guide his steps. “He’s at a good school. He has parents who have their heads on their shoulders. We live like normal people, so it’s the best school for him I think,” adds Guillaume Canet.

There remains the risk of being perceived as a nepo baby, and of having difficulty asserting one’s merit, in particular because of “the very high expectations from people”. But the star couple, who met on Children’s Games in 2003, prefer not to make plans on the comet. “It’s not certain that he will always want to do that either. There I think it amuses him but he will surely and perhaps want to do something else, and so much the better. Whatever he does, as long as he is happy, that’s the main thing,” says Marion Cotillard’s partner wisely.
