The selection criteria for candidates in the Miss France competition have been relaxed in recent years. There is now no age limit to enter – all you have to do is be of legal age – tattoos are allowed and the competition is now open to mothers and transgender women.
But this is not the case for all beauty contests. Thus Miss World keeps its own criteria, which are no longer entirely compatible with the French competition.
Elected on Saturday December 14, 2024 at the Arena Futuroscope, in Vienne, the new Miss France Angélique Angarni-Filopon, who represented Martinique, is 34 years old. A first for the competition.
27 years maximum at Miss World
But it is a problem to participate in Miss World, which imposes an age limit of 27 years for the different national misses. Impossible, therefore, for Angélique Angarni-Filopon to participate.
She can, however, participate in the Miss Universe competition, which does not have this age limit, as she notably confirmed on the set of the show Dailyon TMC.
This does not mean, however, that France cannot participate at all. It is possible for the Miss France Society to propose another candidate, in this case one of the runners-up in the election.
The first runner-up Sabah Aïb, who represented Nord-Pas-de-Calais, says she is ready, according to The Voice of the North. “I’ll try my luck”she says, if we called on her.
It is also possible to call on a former Miss who has never participated in the international competition, as has already been the case. As recalled 20 MinutesClémence Botino, Miss France 2020, competed at Miss World 2024.
