A few hours after being released, Paul Watson gave a few minutes of his time to RTL info to share his feelings.

After leaving prison, Paul Watson answered questions from RTL info. The environmental activist said:very relieved to be released“especially since he should be able to return home in time to see”[s]I’m kids for Christmas, so I’m happy with that“.

I will try to make arrangements to return to to see my family and I hope it will not take too long“, adds the American-Canadian who had been in detention since July.

I believe that my arrest and imprisonment served to continue this campaign against illegal whaling, by Japan and also by Denmark and the Faroe Islands. And so that brought a lot of attention to these illegal activities. So it was a great success“, estimates the 74-year-old man.

He also recalls that “Japan violates the International Whaling Commission’s 1986 Moratorium on commercial whaling. It is also against Australian federal law for killing whales in Australia’s Antarctic Territory, for which they were fined, and they refused to pay this fine. And the International Court of Justice upheld the ruling against Japan, specifically for the killing of whales in the waters established ‘Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary’.”

Far from having discouraged him, Paul Watson wants to continue his fight: “We have ships ready to intervene against Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean and also against whaling in Iceland“.
