The Rillette affair has been in the news for several months now. And this December 16, it was the actress and fervent defender of the animal cause, Brigitte Bardot, who came to the aid of the threatened young sow…
In April 2023, Élodie Cappé, a horse breeder in Aube, took in a young boar abandoned by its mother. Concerned about the survival of this wild animal, she decided to keep him warm and feed him with the hope that an animal park would take him in… But that was without taking into account the fact that wild boars are considered harmful. Result: the young mother integrated Rillette into her family and now raises him on her twenty-hectare plot of land.
The affair has become in the media and Brigitte Bardot has just added her two cents.
Rillette affair: the wild boar who brings crowds together!
Yes, but here it is: his presence disturbs the OFB, the National Biodiversity Office which requested his euthanasia a few months ago. However, a decree published in 2018 authorizes individuals to keep a non-domestic animal upon simple request to the department prefecture… But the authorities are stumbling over the case of the wild boar. The prosecution even opened a judicial investigation.
In a few months, and after particularly active mobilization from her mistress, the sow Rillette was able to bring together the crowds. An online petition calling for the cancellation of the OFB’s request has already collected no less than 80,000 signatures. #SaveRillette is even very often in the top Tweet on the social network X.
“We are governed by assassins” : Brigitte Bardot helping the wild boar Rillette
This Monday, December 16, it was Brigitte Bardot herself who joined the fight. The former actress, now aged 90, who lives as a recluse in her house near Saint-Tropez, has in fact come out of her silence to come to the aid of this animal in distress. The President of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, to whom all her property will go upon her death, even sent a public letter to the authorities. And she pulls no punches!
“Help”she begins her letter. Before requesting, purely and simply, the cancellation of thedecision “absurd in his eyes”. “The word human disgusts me,” even adds BB a few lines later. “This little animal has the right to live, it is even a duty, she is innocent! Euthanasia is a crime”she castigates at the end of her letter. The star of the film Contempt add: “We are governed by assassins”.
