The cast of Scream 7 continues to grow around Neve Campbell, with a now well-established character who will make her return.
Scream 7 will be remembered as a fine example of a sad and perilous Hollywood stunt. Originally conceived as a direct sequel to Scream 5 et Scream 6around the Carpenter sisters, the seventh episode of the Ghostface saga took another turn when the producers fired their lead actress Melissa Barrera in November 2023because of his public support for Palestine.
A choice which caused a chain reaction since the other main actress, Jenna Ortega, left the project by citing reasons so implausible that everyone understood that it was in support of his colleague. And in the process, the director-writer Christopher Landon (Happy Birthdead) is also gone. In a few weeks, Scream 7 had thus lost the majority of his team.
How to fix things and divert attention? Bringing back Sidney Prescott with Neve Campbell (who had refused to return to Scream 6 for salary reasons) and by hiring the essential Kevin Williamson (screenwriter of Scream, Scream 2 et Scream 4) as director, in order to sell the idea of a return to basics. And while the cast grows week after week, here comes a known face in the saga joins Scream 7.
ANOTHER RETURN TO SCREAM 7
Variety announces that Mason Gooding will be back in Scream 7and will resume his role after Scream 5 et Scream 6. And this is the logical continuation of things since Chad Meeks-Martin’s character is indestructible.
In the fifth film, he was stabbed several times in the rind, and was left for dead on the lawn – and he did not survive in the originally planned scenario. And in the sixth part, he was attacked by two Ghostfaces and was stabbed even more before the heroines’ eyes.
No word on the return of Mindy, Chad’s twin sister played by Jasmin Savoy Brow. But its absence would only draw attention to the development flaws of Scream 7so there is no doubt that the team will do everything to bring her back.
In any case, Chad’s return confirms that there will indeed be an assumed link with Scream 5 et Scream 6instead of throwing all the characters from this period in the trash. Therefore, the absence of Tara and Samantha will have to be explained – it will probably be as convincing as with Sidney in the sixth film.
WHO ELSE CAN RETURN TO SCREAM 7?
Mason Gooding joins the well-stocked cast of this Scream 7After Isabel May (who will play Sidney’s daughter)McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner and Asa Germann, all united around Neve Campbell.
In the frozen food section, production must currently work on the return of another indestructible character: Gale Weathers. She is the only one to be present in each episode of the saga, where she narrowly avoided death each time. In Scream VIshe was even entitled to an entire confrontation scene with Ghostface, which seemed to mark her end… except that it didn’t.
The rumor also speaks of the return of Patrick Dempsey, Detective Mark Kincaid Scream 3. He ended up in a relationship with Sidney, and the directors of Scream 5 confirmed that they had since started a family, as mentioned in one scene. Recalling this character would once again create a direct bridge with the cult trilogy.
Finally, last question: will they dare to bring back Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere ? She was one of the funniest characters in Scream 4and one of the most useless in Scream 6so nothing is impossible.
Scream 7 will only be the second film directed by Kevin Williamsonwho had not tried the adventure again since the disaster of Mrs. Tingle in 1999. The comedy with Helen Mirren as a tyrannical teacher kidnapped by Katie Holmes, Marisa Coughlan and Barry Watson was a failure upon its release. Since then, the creator of Dawson traced his path as a screenwriter, and he notably created the series Vampire Diaries (with Julie Plec), Followingor even Tell Me a Story.
Scream 7 will be released in cinemas on February 25, 2026. It remains to be seen whether the public will once again be there, after the success of Scream 5 (nearly 140 million, for a budget of 24 million) and Scream 6 (nearly 170 million, for a budget of 35 million), which had done much better than Scream 4 (not even 100 million, for a budget of 40 million).
