His last tour abruptly ended in May 2023, because he was exhausted: Stromae reappears on the screens Friday December 6, 2024 in Multitude, the filmlive dive to “thank” his fans, and hits with a new song.
“Paul is better”
Asked about his brother's current form, Luc Van Haver replies that “Paul (Stromae's real name) is doing better” and that he is “super happy” with the release of a documentary film on his world tour.
“Paul never stopped making music”, even if “an album is not on the agenda”he slips soberly.
The most listened to song in 24 hours
Moreover, his creativity, which is expressed via his label Mosaert (anagram of his stage name), has resulted in a new original composition, “My best enemy”, released on November 23. The title, a duet with French singer Pomme, appears on the soundtrack of the series “Arcane” (Netflix).
This is the song performed in French most listened to in 24 hours on Spotifyaccording to the music streaming giant.
“My best enemy” has been prancing around at the top of the Top 50 world on Spotify.
An immersive film on his tour
And the film on his tour, directed by Cyprien Delire and Luc Van Haver, will be broadcast in France on TMC and TF1+ Friday eveningbefore being available on YouTube from December 14.
Notice to indiscreet people: move around, there is nothing to see behind the scenes, except a few furtive parentheses. Here, Stromae warms up with the jump rope. There, stage settings serve as interludes between pieces.
The film was designed as an immersion in the world tour which followed “Multitude”, triple platinum disc and third album by the 39-year-old Belgian singer, one of the most listened to French-speaking artists in the world.
“It still represents 750,000 spectators who were unable to see the show, who were disappointed, but who completely accepted the cancellations,” underlines Luc Van Haver atAFP.
This tour was supposed to last until December 2023, but was stopped eight months earlier.
The artist decorated by the Belgian king
Like a “patchwork”, the film assembles pieces from concerts in around twenty different places but succeeds in creating a unity. With few images of the public, the cameras are trained full on Stromae.
Exuding an aura on stage, the singer embodies each song – “Santé”, “La fête”, “Paris on danse”… nothing but hits – and dances like a disjointed puppet, galvanized by the music.
“As long as I’m alive, I’m undefeated”he sings in front of the audience, ascot shirt and raised fist, in the middle of an avant-garde stage set-up, the result of a year of design.
“He always gives a lot of energy on stage but, sometimes, the interpretation changes a little, so it gave us enormous freedom to be able to really choose the moments we wanted and I think that adds to the emotion and to the strength of the film,” believes Cyprien Delire.
In a rare appearance, Stromae also was decorated by the King of the Belgians Philippe at the end of November in Brussels, during a ceremony which praised his “deep and offbeat musical universe” making Belgium shine abroad.
