The video surveillance footage shows the singer of the song Livin’ on a Prayer and her production assistant gently approach the railing behind which the woman in difficulty is located. The singer leans on the barrier and begins to chat quietly with her. The assistant approaches her and takes her by the arm, while continuing to talk with her. A few moments later, the woman, dressed in a blue shirt, agrees to go back to the other side of the railing, before taking the singer in her arms, once safe.

On Wednesday, the city’s police department thanked the 62-year-old singer: “Kudos to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to climb down from the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety,” Police Chief John Drake wrote on X, adding, “We all need to help keep each other safe.” According to the newspaper The TennesseanBon Jovi was filming a music video for his song The People’s House on the bridge, which remained open to the public during filming. Out of respect for the person he helped, the singer did not wish to respond to media requests.

Long involved in humanitarian work

The musician has been involved in various humanitarian organizations and programs for many years. With his foundation The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, created in 2006, he helps the homeless and low-income families. In 2011, he opened the JBJ Soul Kitchen, a community restaurant where customers pay for their meal by donating according to their means or volunteering.

The Tennessean recalls that the bridge has been named after the newspaper’s Nashville publisher, John Seigenthaler, since April 2014. A tribute to this journalist who, on October 4, 1954, had stopped a man from jumping from the bridge. At 960 meters long, this bridge, closed to automobile traffic in 1998, is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world.
