Oliver Hudson and his sister Kate Hudson could legally become Kurt Russell's children, but they chose not to be adopted by the star.
In their podcast “Sibling Revelry,” which he hosts with his younger sister Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson discussed the reasons they refused to be adopted by Kurt Russell when they were younger. “I say that because my father lived with us for a little while, then he ran away. We have a good relationship now, but it took a long, long, long, long time, but we are here,” the actor explained.
He said he met Kurt Russell, famous for his roles in “Tombstone” and “The Christmas Chronicles,” when he was “six, five or six years old.” “He’s basically the one who raised me. I am the man I am today because of him, right? There was a point where he asked Kate and I if we wanted to be adopted, and we said no,” he added.
However, due to their young ages, they were not aware of the symbolism. “We were six and twelve, I don't remember the age, but we said, 'Okay, we don't need it. The love is there,'” he concluded.
Goldie Hawn, their mother, welcomed Oliver and Kate during her marriage to Bill Hudson, which lasted from 1976 to 1982. Over the years, both children often spoke of feeling abandoned by their biological father. However, after becoming their mother's partner in 1983, Kurt Russell quickly took on the role of father figure, affectionately being called “Pa” by Oliver and Kate.
