Kevin Costner reveals he was sick while filming “Hidden Figures.” Suffering from kidney stones, he was on a morphine drip and tried his best not to cry in front of the crew.

Kevin Costner has said he “worked 10 days on a morphine drip” while filming 2016’s “Hidden Figures,” making a point of “not missing a day of work.”

“I’ve never worked on set drunk. I’ve never worked on set drugged, but I was on morphine the last two weeks that I worked on [Les Figures de l’ombre]”I don’t even know how. For three days I was normal and then something happened to me.”

Between scenes, Kevin Costner said he was “sitting in his trailer with a morphine IV in my arm” and quickly had to roll up his sleeves to hide the bruises from the IV. The pain and fatigue were intense, but he did his best to hide it. “I wanted to cry, but everyone was looking at me, so I didn’t,” he said.

Based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly, “Hidden Figures” also starred Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe as Dorothy Vaughan, Katherine Goble Johnson and Mary Jackson, three African-American mathematicians who played a key role in NASA’s victory in the space race.
