Former footballer David Beckham has revealed that he was always sure he would be with his wife Victoria, without having met her first.
A couple that lasts. On their 25th wedding anniversary, David Beckham revealed to The Sun that he “always knew he would be” with his wife Victoria, even before they first met in 1997.
“I always said that once I met Victoria, I would always be with her. A few months before we met, I was abroad with the England team. Gary Neville [son coéquipier de Manchester United] and I were in the hotel room and a Spice Girls video came on. I think it was ‘Say You’ll Be There’. I pointed at the screen and said, ‘That’s the girl for me and I’m going to get her,'” the athlete explained.
His wife also felt the same way, saying: “I loved David long before we met. I remember doing an interview for a football magazine and they showed me pictures of different footballers. I had no idea who he was, but I remember thinking one word: “beautiful.”
A marriage and four children later
“She came to a football game and I said ‘hi’ to her from across the room and that was it. I thought I had blown my chance, and then a week later she showed up at another football game. She saw a few and she gave me her number,” David Beckham recounted during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres about their first meeting with David in 1997.
The couple were seen as the epitome of a high-profile romance, with one of English football’s biggest stars and a member of the Spice Girls at the time announcing their engagement just a year after they met in January 1998.
Shortly before their wedding, David and Victoria Beckham welcomed their first child, Brooklyn, 25. Subsequently, the couple expanded their family by welcoming Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.
