The Grand Palais is hosting the FAB Paris show until November 26. The 100 participating galleries reveal an impressive diversity of masterpieces, from all genres and periods.
FAB Paris is an interesting show due to its history. It was born from the merger between two fairs, namely Fine Arts Paris (created in 2017) and the famous Biennale des antiquaires (created in 1962). Going there is a bit like going to a museum whose collections range from archeology to contemporary Art, including primitive arts, designer furniture, bibliophilia and jewelry. The 2024 edition, which is being held for the first time under the glass roof of the Grand Palais in Paris (from November 22 to 27), brings together 100 exhibitors from all over the world, 30% of whom are foreign.
Rothschild taste
After the Mobilier national in 2023 at the Grand Palais Éphémère, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is this year the guest of honor at FAB Paris. It reveals around fifty pieces of furniture and objects from its collections, thus offering visitors a glimpse of this “Rothschild seaside taste” and thereby demonstrating this fundamental continuity between the art market and the works that are kept in museums.

A new dynamism in the Parisian art market
The art market has become very important in Paris: after Art Basel in October for contemporary art, then Paris Photo in November, here is now FAB Paris which exhibits ancient and contemporary arts. This proves that Paris has once again become a center towards which customers and objects converge. At the same time, the galleries are relocating to Avenue Matignon, all the major international brands, such as White Cube or Hauser & Wirth, now have a place near Sotheby’s and Christie’s. FAB Paris corresponds to this craze.

As for ancient art, we will find an 18th century lacquer secretary by Adam Weisweiler (1746-1820) at the Léage gallery, a painting representing a jellyfish head painted in the 19th century by the German August Rieper at Ary Jan, or a sublime wooden Annunciation by Sismann. As for modern and contemporary art, you can find, for example, at Almine Rech paintings by Serge Poliakoff, this Russian artist who lived in France.
