This story told by a former teammate at Monaco does not really highlight Thierry Henry, the Espoirs coach.
Since retiring from playing and trying his hand at coaching, Thierry Henry has remained quite popular, notably thanks to his role as a consultant in England at Sky or in France at Amazon, before becoming the coach of France Espoirs team. During his brilliant playing career, the former Arsenal striker was a little more divisive among his peers and part of the public, for the sometimes distant and arrogant image that he sometimes conveyed.
Some of his former teammates still hold a certain resentment towards him for behavior that they did not appreciate at the time and for which they have still not received an explanation.
In the MMA media “Gong”, Samuel Monin, who rubbed shoulders with Thierry Henry in Monaco before converting to combat sports quite early, did not spare the former top scorer in the history of the Blues.
“He had 20-year-old friends who he did crazy things to. There was the wedding of one of my best friends, Philippe Christanval, in Monaco. He and Thierry have known each other since they were little, they went to Clairefontaine together, they are really friends. The day before the wedding, Philippe said to him: ‘You are in Cannes, are you coming tomorrow?’. Yeah yeah. He didn’t come for the whole wedding. Not a word, not an apology, nothing. They saw each other again in the French team afterwards but they didn’t speak to each other because there had still been no excuses. […] You’re in Cannes, the wedding is in Monaco 20 kilometers away and you’re not coming? You’re able to go to the Cannes Film Festival the day before, for the whores, but your friend is getting married the next day and you’re not there? It’s scandalous.”.
Thierry Henry, “a trumpet”?
Samuel Monin added that it was probably Thierry Henry’s popularity that made him abandon his older friends in favor of celebrities, like Tony Parker. “Thierry was so used to having his dick fucked that he thought everything he did was good. I had a serious disagreement with him in my room in Monaco, he was a trumpet. He did something to me and I told him I was going to n***** him.”.
The two men did not get to that point and each was able to take their own path. Thierry Henry became one of the strongest footballers of his generation and Samuel Monin notably became world champion of jiu-jitsu then coach and today consultant.
