“I was frozen”: The grandson of Louis de Funès reveals the true face of the actor’s last wife

With a grandfather like Louis de Funès, it's difficult not to evoke family memories. Although he became known late in life, the actor managed to become one of the most popular artists of his generation and even today, his name continues to be heard almost everywhere. As we know, Louis de Funès exploded late in life, before dying on January 27, 1983 at just 68 years old following a heart attack while he was in . He left behind a wife, Jeanne-Augustine Barthélémy de Maupassant and three children, Daniel, born from a first marriage and Patrick and Olivier.

This Thursday, November 21, it was Laurent de Funès, Daniel's son and therefore grandson of the French actor, who was the guest on the show At Jordan De Luxe on C8. The latter followed in the footsteps of his grandfather since he became an actor and performed in particular in the theater. The one who showed himself without filter on the strong tensions at the death of the actor, returned to the complicated relationships that he was able to maintain with the last wife of his grandfather, Jeanne-Augustine, “who absolutely wanted to isolate the first family”. According to the 63-year-old man, the latter would have had a rather problematic attitude towards her family. “She absolutely wanted to erase us and my father had difficulty accepting the orders she wanted to give him. She was a very authoritarian woman”he remembers.

Laurent de Funès “frozen” by a remark

The grandson of the actor, who was criticized for his attitude on the set of Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez, will then tell a little anecdote which says a lot about his enmity towards Jeanne-Augustine Barthélémy de Maupassant. “When I was little, I have memories of Jeanne, a very bossy woman who impressed me (…) When I was with my grandfather, she always came to disturb usdisturb me. (…) He was playing with me, we were laughing (…) She arrived and said: 'Louis, don't you see that you are boring this child ?’ I froze suddenlyremembers Laurent de Funès.

According to the grandson of Louis de Funès, who had a complex relationship with his son Daniel, his last wife did this on purpose. “It was a way of making a mark”he summarizes.
