Nathalie Petrowski: “Céline is always a bit in representation”

It was a veritable verbal battle that took place Nathalie Petrowskireview of the show It’s just TVaccompanied by the author Simon Boulerice, on the set of the show Good evening live yesterday evening (June 25) in front of host Jean-Philippe Wauthier on the documentary, I am: Celine Dion.

The two guests who did not necessarily agree on various elements of the documentary, available since yesterday on Prime Video, on the other hand, both strongly recommend viewing it.

If Simon Boulerice is a big fan of Céline Dion, this is not necessarily the case for Nathalie Petrowski.

Nevertheless, she was very objective in displaying the qualities of American director Irene Taylor.

“The film is magnificent, because it is directed by Irene Taylor, a documentarian, a director, who is an artist, who has a sensitivity, who is a humanist, who is not a fan of Celine Dion”, lists criticism.

“All the interviews that Céline gave, I find that it detracts from the beauty of this film, because it is a film with a certain softness, the camera stays on her… there is something that you don’t see in the trailer,” underlines Nathalie Petrowski.

“Céline, she appears without make-up… it’s a stripping… we’ve never seen her look as real as that, but Céline is still a little bit in representation…” comments Petrowski, recalling that for the purposes of the documentary, we filmed Céline for 800 hours over a year.

For his part, Simon Boulerice affirms that “it’s a film about loneliness”, since we feel alone and having no one to confide in, apart from the camera.

We also question the fact that René Angélil, the late husband and brilliant manager, is practically excluded from the documentary.

“She never talks about René, it’s very strange,” says the critic.

“No, it’s not strange, it’s great, we’re on her… the fighter who still wants to sing… and she makes such, such touching confessions, she’s very lucid,” adds Simon Boulerice with his usual verve.

As for René Charles, he is also absent. A little surprising, though…

In her analysis, Nathalie Petrowski also questions the idea of always wanting to perform like an Olympic athlete.

“She sees herself as an Olympic champion, a gold medalist who can no longer have the gold medal and she doesn’t accept it… it’s sad… there is someone who doesn’t want to give up », she illustrates with her frankness.

The two guests also welcomed the fact that Céline, during the documentary, states about herself, without modesty, “ I was the best» (I was the best), using the passive form. No doubt she regrets this time, no longer being at the same height.

The critic also recalled that Denise Bombardier, who had followed Céline on tour for the purposes of the publication of her book, The Enigmatic Celine Dionpublished in 2009, highlighted that already in those years, the singer of My Heart Will Go On was obsessed with her voice.

“…her biggest insecurity in the world was losing her voice,” explains Nathalie Petrowski. Which makes sense, since already, a year earlier, the symptoms of his illness, the stiff person syndromehad already shown its first signs.

We all agree that Céline no longer has anything to prove to anyone and she deserves some rest, away from the stage while a new crisis lurks at any moment, since her illness is incurable. On the other hand, she could well offer her fans a new album recorded at her own pace.

Speaking of the looming crisis, we discussed during the show the highlight of the documentary when Céline experiences a crisis in front of the camera. “She begins to have a spasm in her foot… a crisis begins… the scenes are unbearable, for seven minutes… we suffer for her, I was sobbing,” confides Simon Boulerice.

As for the host Jean-Philippe Wauthier, he questions whether Céline will sing at the Paris Olympic Games.

“Leave her alone…” concludes Simon Boulerice.
