After the success of the series “Acharnés” – or “Beef” in the original version – Netflix is preparing the sequel. First announced, Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal will not be there but two new names are appearing.

After the significant success of Acharnés, presented as a limited series, Netflix is preparing the sequel. Determined to hit hard, the platform hoped to surround itself with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal for the main roles, but the two actors are ultimately out of the running.

The media Deadline announces that Oscar Isaac (Dune, Moon Knight) and Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby) are currently in negotiations to reprise their roles. They would thus join Charles Melton (Riverdale, May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Alien Romulus) previously announced in parallel roles.

Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan have already played opposite each other in 2023 in the film Inside Llewyn Davis by the Coen brothers in 2023. Netflix seems to be looking for a real complicity for these two characters because Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal had already shared the screen on several occasions previously.

This new season of Acharnés – or Beef in the original version – becomes anthological and should follow two duos of characters who argue. The series tells how a simple incident in a parking lot between two individuals can lead to obsessive madness. Acharnés won three Golden Globes – including Best Miniseries – and two Emmys for its two actors, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.

Acharnés was one of the most popular series of the year 2023. On AlloCiné, it receives an average of 4.1 out of 5 for press and spectator ratings.

Acharnés is available on Netflix.
