Lady Louise noticed in her floral dress in memory of the coronation of her uncle Charles III

This June 15, 2024, all eyes were on the Princess of Wales who was making her return to the public stage, surrounded by her three children. The very discreet Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor was also noted for her floral outfit worn in memory of the coronation of King Charles III.

The real Lady of the royal family impresses with her discretion at Trooping the Color

Lady Louise follows in her mother’s footsteps: discretion, dignity and no missteps. Lady Louise is also inspired by her aunt, Princess Anne, designated as the queen of clothing recycling among the Windsors. This Saturday, June 15, 2024, the British royal family surrounded King Charles III during the Trooping the Color military parades, organized annually in June to celebrate his public birthday.

King Charles III, who is suffering from cancer, and the Princess of Wales, who is undergoing chemotherapy, were the two members of the royal family most scrutinized by the press and the British. Princess Catherine made her very first public appearance since December 2023, sitting in a pram with her children, then smiling on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Other members of the royal family, however, played an active role during the festivities, such as the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne. On the back of their horse, the son, younger brother and sister of King Charles III led the regiments of which they were colonels.

Among the discreet members of the royal family, there is the Duchess of Edinburgh, sister-in-law of the King, but also the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who are always present and do not seek the limelight. What can we also say about the Duke of Kent who, at 88 years old, still fulfills his representational duties? During the final years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, only working members of the royal family were granted the right to appear at the forefront of protests. A configuration that King Charles III also adopted. This year again, only working members of the royal family were able to appear on the balcony during the flypast which concluded the Trooping the Color festivities.

The main members of the royal family who do not work for the Crown and are therefore not invited to the balcony are Prince Andrew and his daughters, the Duke of Sussex’s family or even the children of Princess Anne. Minor children of working members of the royal family are also allowed to accompany their parents. Thus, Prince William and Princess Kate are surrounded by their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Today there is an exception to this rule: Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor. Lady Louise, aged 20, 16th in line to the British throne, is not a working member of the royal family. The young woman, who studies at the University of St Andrews, is probably considered to still be dependent on her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

A year after the coronation, when she made few public appearances, Lady Louise chose to wear the same dress depicting irises (Photo: Stephen Lock/i-Images/ABACAPRESS.COM)

Lady Louise impressed this Saturday with her elegance. As her aunt, Princess Anne, often does, she chose to wear a dress that was already familiar to her. And for good reason, this summery white dress with iris patterns by Suzannah London is the one she wore last year during the coronation of King Charles III. Lady Louise, who we see little during the year, could have chosen to wear a new dress, taking advantage of her few public appearances to wear her most beautiful outfits. But the young woman preferred to keep it simple by wearing an outfit that has made history since she appears in this dress in all the official coronation photos.

Lady Louise wore a pale blue hat in the style of that worn in May 2023 at her uncle’s coronation. However, it is not the same hat. This is a Jane Taylor hat belonging to her mother, the Duchess of Edinburgh, which she has worn on other occasions.

Royal commentators have lamented the absence of James, the Earl of Wessex, son of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, who usually stands next to his big sister, Lady Louise. The two children of Prince Edward and Sophie are very discreet but some hope that they will one day join the ranks of working members of the royal family. Technically, Lady Louise and Lord James should have been Princess and Prince of the United Kingdom at birth but their parents, out of modesty and to give them a choice in life, decided that they would not use their titles. At 18, Lady Louise could have asserted her right to become a princess but she made no decision in this direction. She could always change her mind in a few years, once she finishes her studies, if she decides to work for the crown, either during the reign of her uncle or during the reign of her first cousin, William.
