Nelson Monfort announced his retirement from France Télévisions after the Roland-Garros match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, marking the end of his career as a sports commentator.
During his career, Monfort left behind some memorable moments, including a blunder during a match between Elliot Benchetrit and John Isner in 2020, where he was heard singing “I’m singing in the rain” and disrupting the game.
Despite the blunders, Monfort remains a valued figure, with an emotional farewell on the set of France 5, where he was reminded that despite the end of his career, he will always be welcome.

We hear Nelson Monfort sing I’m singing in the rain from the terrace overlooking the court, without realizing that it disturbs the players. “Excuse me sir […] Mr. journalist at the top, please”the referee calls out in vain, echoed by the public: “Nelson, hey Nelson!”.

Back on set on France 5, Nelson Monfort was asked to explain himself. Why was he freewheeling so much? “It was the year of the health crisis. Filming took place in October. It was also quite cold. We were almost in an anorak after the tournament.”recalled the ex-star of France 2.
Usually, the noise of the audience drowned out his comments. However, what Nelson Monfort had overlooked that day was that the health restrictions had drastically reduces the gauge. “I had forgotten that for a moment, especially with the headset”, he admitted to Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine.
