In a video published on his Instagram account, journalist Laurent Delahousse, at the head of a large and blended family, shares “dad advice” with Omar Sy.

“There really isn’t a manual for being a dad, really.” This observation is that of Omar Sy. On the sidelines of the show 8:30 p.m. Sunday in which he participated on April 28, the actor briefly discussed his role as father of 5 children with Laurent Delahousse, himself at the head of a large blended family. An exchange that the latter published on his Instagram account on May 4, specifying, as a caption: “Our common point with Omar Sy: the large family! We’ll give you some dad advice.”

“Fear is lack of time, absences”

For the star of the series Lupine, the secret of good cohesion is to grant special moments to each child individually, “one-to-one”. A point of view shared by the TV presenter. “Having one-to-one moments, especially at tipping points, when things can get a little out of hand, when it’s complicated… Those are important moments,” he confirms, insisting on the fact that “group spirit, the sharing of common values, interactions between each other” constitute the glue of blended families.

Another subject addressed by the two men: the impact of their profession on their private lives. “The fear is the lack of time, the absences. I’ve been working a lot for years, 6 days a week,” admits Laurent Delahousse. To fill these absences, to “keep this link” with his family, the journalist, in a relationship with the actress Alice Taglioni, resorts to “little messages” or to inviting “his children to his workplace” .

“My children don’t blame me for my absences”

For Omar Sy, a “good presence”, that is to say the fact of being fully with his children at a given moment, would allow “to be able to be absent from time to time”. And in this context, the one who will be one of the members of the jury of the 77th Cannes Film Festival can count on strong support: his wife Hélène Sy. Invited on the set of Clique TV, presented by Mouloud Achour, on April 29, Omar Sy did not hide the fact that it was she who allowed him to find the balance between his family life and his professional obligations. “The luck I have with Hélène is that she lives very well (my absences, Editor’s note.), she allows me but above all, she fulfills well. For the children, it could have been dramatic, but they do not experience this absence with difficulty. I think they don’t blame me for that and it’s thanks to her,” he explained.
