Visual artist, Bernard Venet For more than 60 years, he has been building works marked by a sort of mathematical obsession. It is for this reason that his work could be compared to that of minimalists like Carl Andre or Donald Judd whom he worked with in New York, where he settled in 1967 at the invitation of his colleague in art and friend, Arman. However, it is a more conceptual direction that Bernar Venet immediately takes: from an “industrial abstraction” practiced at his beginnings, he engages in forms punctuated by mathematical functions, as well as his Undetermined linesmonumental geometric steel sculptures installed in public spaces since 1983.
A major retrospective of his work entitled Bernar Venet : Beyond Concept and Matter takes place at Phoenix Center in Beijing until February 28, 2025. In Paris, the artist presents, until November 30, a series of photographs in a personal exhibition entitled Macadam 1963 to the galerie Bigaignon.
