Third 'Downton Abbey' Movie Will Be Last, Confirms Hugh Bonneville

Never two without three. Hugh Bonneville revealed that the third feature film Downton Abbey will indeed be the last. However, fans rejoice: it will also be a vibrant tribute to Maggie Smith.

The British actress, made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II, died on September 27, at the age of 89. She was obviously able to participate in the filming of this final part of the adventures of the Crawley family in which she played Lady Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham.

This third film will therefore mark a conclusion in more than one way, as Hugh Bonneville explained on Virgin Radio.

Bowing out

“We completed a third – and probably final – Downton Abbey film this summer, which will be released next September. This is a kind of wonderful closure of all the stories, a real film for the fans,” the interpreter of Lord Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, confided on the air.

He added: “It's about saying goodbye to all these characters and obviously we're saying goodbye to Dame Maggie, which was very poignant on screen and now in real life. She will be greatly missed. But the last film will obviously be a great tribute to his memory. »

We will therefore have to prepare our tissues for September 2025 in order to say goodbye to the entire Crawley family on the big screen.
