Who are you ? Who, who, who, who? It's a song that we haven't forgotten… Whether we like it or not, The Experts (or CSI for purists) remains one of the most iconic detective series in television history. The “experts” are the best investigators from the Las Vegas forensic police, led by the charismatic Gil Grissom (William Petersen). A taciturn surrounded by Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger), Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), Nick Stokes (George Eads) and Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan). Created by Anthony E. Zuiker, the series began on October 6, 2000 on CBS and concluded in 2015 after fifteen seasons rich in crime resolutions and quite a few twists and turns within the team.
The Experts from Las Vegas, an unexpected revival
During its years of broadcast, the series was the most watched around the world, it even had three spin-offs: Les Experts : Miami (2002-2012), Les Experts: Manhattan (2004-2013) et Les Experts : Cyber (2015-2016). But when a little more than twenty years after its creation, a revival of the original series was mentioned, it was hard to believe it. And yet, they came back. Almost all of them, and not at the same time.
William Petersen, Jorja Fox reprized their roles in the first season, Marg Helgenberger in the second and third… They especially left their place to a new team led by Paula Newsome (Maxine “Max” Roby), Matt Lauria (Joshua “Josh” Folsom) or even Mandeep Dhillon (Ahalya “Allie” Rajan) – for whom the adventure ended in May 2024, after three seasons and 41 episodes in total. But what have the original experts done in the meantime?
William Petersen (Gil Grissom)
William Petersen played the leader of the Expertsfrom season 1 to season 9. His role earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2004. He will return occasionally, including in the final double bonus episode. He will be replaced by Laurence Fishburne (Raymond Langston) in season 9 who, in turn, will give way to Ted Danson in season 12 (DB Russell). Gil Grissom will become Sara Sidle's husband. Since the end of ExpertsWilliam Petersen only replayed in one series, Manhattan, in 2015. This revival brought him out of retirement: he reprized his role in the first season before returning to retirement! Divorced from Joanne Bradu with whom he had a daughter, Maite, he remarried in 2003 to Gina Cirone. In 2011, the couple welcomed twins (a boy and a girl) born via a surrogate mother. William Petersen is not on social media. He hasn't made a public appearance since 2015!
Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows)
Marg Helgenberger left The Experts in 2013, she returned for the final double bonus episode. This role earned him two Golden Globe nominations, in 2002 and 2003. Since the end of the ExpertsMarg Helgenberger has appeared in several series, Intelligence, Under the Dome and recently All Rise, a legal series which ended in 2021 after three seasons. She reprized her role as Catherine Willows in the second and third seasons of the revival. The actress was married to actor Alan Rosenberg, whom she met on the set of the soap opera Ryan’s Hopefrom 1989 to 2010. They have a son together, Hugh, born in 1990. In 2022, she married stuntman Charles Haugk.
Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle)
Jorja Fox arrived in the second episode of CSI. She remained until the end, but on a dotted line during seasons 8 and 9. Sara Sidle will become the wife of Gil Grissom. Since the end of Experts, Jorja Fox, former resident of the series Urgences and At the White Househas only two roles to his credit, in a TV movie and a new sci-fi film. Jorja Fox reprized her role as Sara Sidle in the first season of the revival. And she hasn't done anything since. Very discreet, she is not on social networks but she has appeared several times in photos shared by her former comrades of the Experts.
George Eads (Nick Stokes)
George Eads is the only one to have appeared in every episode of all 15 seasons. However, he was deprived of the final double bonus episode. Since the end of ExpertsGeorge Eads played Jack Dalton in the reboot of MacGyvera series he left in the middle of the third season. We also saw him in two episodes of This is us and that's it… He's also the discreet type and he's not present on social networks. But he sometimes acts as a model…
Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown)
Gary Dourdan left The Experts in 2008 (RIP, Warrick). Since the end of the series, Gary Dourdan, actor and singer, has played roles here and there, mainly in B series films, we saw him in two episodes of And Just like that… He also experienced some legal setbacks for drug offenses and domestic violence. He is the father of two children, Lyric (Cynthia Hadden) and Nyla (with Jennifer Sutton).
Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass)
Paul Guilfoyle played the “real” cop of the Experts until the end of the 14th season. He returned for the final double bonus episode. Since the end of ExpertsPaul Guilfoyle has played in numerous series including Colony, The Good Fight or even The Morning Show. Paul Guilfoyle reprized his role as Jim Brass in the first two episodes of the revival. Since 1989, he has been married to Lisa Giobbi, dancer and choreographer, with whom he has a daughter, Snowden.
Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders)
Eric Szmanda was recurring in seasons 1 and 2 of Experts before becoming regular. After George Eads / Nick Stokes, he appeared in the most episodes including the final double bonus episode. Since the end of ExpertsEric Szmanda was very rare, appearing in only two B films. He reprized his role as Greg in three episodes of the second season of Experts : Las Vegas.
Robert David Hall (Dr Robbins)
Robert David Hall played the medical examiner of the Experts from the 6th episode of the first season. He also starred in the final double bonus episode. Since the end of Expertshis appearances on screen are extremely rare. His last role, in a short film, dates from 2018.
