“I think my life is bad”, Michel Fugain looks back on his joyful but also painful journey
On the occasion of the release of his new album Life, love, etc. the 82-year-old singer described Sanda as his “half orange“, an expression which testifies to the deep affection he has for her. With tenderness, he declared: “I think my life is bad. I ran into Sanda. At 22, if someone had said to me: 'In Bucharest, there is a baby who has just been born, she will be your wife, I would not have believed it.“Indeed, Sanda, a lively Romanian singer, became a central person in his life, particularly after the trials he went through: “She’s the woman of my life“, he declared with emotion. Michel Fugain spoke of the pain that marked his life: the loss of his daughter, Laurette, who died in 2002 at the age of 22 following leukemia. This Tragedy deeply affected his life and his marriage to his first wife Stephanie, which ended after this tragedy. On the show, he shared: “I wrote a book called Laughter and a Tear. My life is laughter all the time with lots of friends, and a tear. A very big tear that I thought I wouldn't recover from.” However, his meeting with Sanda, which occurred a few months after the loss of his daughter, changed the course of his existence. He recalled that their love was first a beautiful friendship before transforming into a romantic relationship, despite the persistent pain of his past.
A passionate relationship
Michel Fugain described the solid foundations of his relationship with Sanda: “We remained friends for three years and then we broke down… We had the impression of being made for each other, of having things to share“, he confided. The passion for music and art united them and in 2014 they married in Corsica, celebrating a decade of life together. “She's the woman of my life.”he said with stars in his eyes.
