“Pathetic”, “Pretentious”: Meghan Markle pilloried for her latest statement deemed inappropriate

Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry returned to the spotlight last August, the couple has continued to make headlines. If the latter are keen to fight for causes that are dear to them, unfortunately, it is the controversies around them that make the headlines more. In recent weeks, it is the new strategy of Archie and Lilibet’s parents that has raised questions. They would have decided to separate their professional lives in order to calm the media game. But it seems that this is not enough. Already, Meghan Markle finds herself under fire for a statement made during her second solo appearance.

Meghan Markle’s controversial statement

On October 2, Prince Harry’s wife visited Girls Inc. in Santa Barbara for the launch of their Social Media U program, which aims to promote mental health in digital interactions. An initiative which will be partly financed by Archewell. During her trip, Meghan Markle interacted with several little girls present in the organization’s premises. On this occasion, she declared to one of them that she was “one of the most bullied people in the world”.

This statement went around the world in the blink of an eye and unfortunately did not have the effect one might have expected. If some would have believed that the confession of the actress Suits was going to soften the audience and provoke their empathy, quite the opposite happened. Meghan Markle finds herself in the middle of a new controversy and many commentators have not minced their words like Chloe Dobbs, political expert, on GBN. “It’s just the most pathetic thing that’s ever come out of his mouth. Saying that to kids who get beaten up over and over again and harassed by parents in abusive homes… How pretentious are you Meghan Markle?”, she said.

The star against the rest of the world

On the channel, Liz Kershaw, another panelist, was not kind to Kate Middleton’s sister-in-law either: “Most of the reviews have been negative and I think she deserves that..” Faced with this, the journalist Benjamin Butterworth adopted a slightly more measured position, but which remains very hostile. “We are quite aggressive with her. In the media, we are a little bit obsessed, whether in England or in the United States. I can imagine it wouldn’t be pleasant to be the target of this. But I think there’s something disturbing about going and talking to young girls and saying, ‘Pity me.’”, declared the expert before concluding: “When living a life of luxury unimaginable to 99.99% of people on the planet, we should talk to them about what they can achieve and not what they should be afraid of.” Enough to ignite the powder a little more…
