The music streaming platform Spotify revealed this Monday the top 5 most listened to French-speaking titles in the world.

Since 2019, listening to French-speaking music has jumped 94% on Spotify, the leading music streaming platform reported this Monday. In the space of twelve months, from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024, more than 83 million hours of French-speaking music resonated in nearly 180 countries around the world, or on average 50 minutes of listenings per month by non-French-speaking audiences, it is detailed in a press release.

Spotify notes that the impact of French-speaking music is “global”. And specifies that Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Spain but also Italy, Mexico, Turkey and Brazil are the non-French-speaking countries where content in French is the most popular. “Almost one in three streams for songs sung in French comes from abroad, a real feat accomplished in just a few years,” notes Bruno Crolot, head of international music at Spotify.

Here are the five most listened to French-speaking titles around the world on Spotify:

“I will leave you words”, Patrick Watson

This sweet melody from the 44-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter is number 1 at the top.

“Last Dance”, Indila

“So we dance”, Stromae

A successful electro title by Belgian singer Stromae released in 2009 (before appearing on the album “Cheese” in 2010), “Danse on danse” is, fifteen years later, still as popular.

«Casanova», Soolking, Gazo

Released in July 2023, and quickly certified gold disc in Italy and Belgium as well as diamond disc in , this song samples the hit “Premier Gaou” by the Ivorian group Magic System.

«Bécane» (version Colors Show), Yamê

Still little known 18 months ago, rapper Yamê is now one of the most streamed French-speaking artists thanks to this title. His live performance at the Colors Show went viral on the Internet in December 2023.
