Musician Ophélie Gaillard launches an appeal after the theft of her cello, estimated at 1.3 million euros, from her home: “It’s madness to steal this type of instrument!”

This is a call launched on social networks. Cellist Ophélie Gaillard announces, in a message on Instagram, that she had her cello and two bows stolen from her home in Haute-Savoie.

The events occurred during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. “My cello Francesco Goffriller (1737) and my personal bows Nicolas Maire and Jean-Marie Persoit were stolen from my home in their dark red flightcase,” she wrote in her appeal.

“It’s horror. It’s a catastrophe,” Ophélie Gaillard told Franceinfo, specifying that the theft took place in the middle of the night while her family was sleeping. “It has nothing to do with commercial value, for me, it’s like someone stole a limb from me,” she confides. The value of his cello is estimated at 1.3 million euros.

“In addition to being odious, it is madness to steal this type of instrument. It is unsaleable. These rare instruments are identified and traced as works of art, and therefore easily identifiable,” says her, angry. An investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie.

Franceinfo recalls that in 2018, his cello had already been stolen in the street in Pantin. The instrument was found the next day following an anonymous call.
