30,000 Bitcoin-to-cash ATMs to be Deployed in the United States

NCR Atleos, which makes ATMs in the United States, will allow its customers to sell their bitcoins for dollars in more than 30 US states.

NCR Atleos, a company that makes ATMs in the United States, announced in a press release published on August 29 that it would launch “a new Bitcoin to Cash feature.” This will allow users to sell their bitcoins and get back dollars.

Once these 30,000 machines are deployed in all ATMs “in more than 30 states,” the company says there will be “a transaction point within five miles for more than three out of four Americans.”

“Solutions that connect digital to physical infrastructure”

After downloading the LibertyX mobile app, this ability to exchange bitcoin for dollars is made possible through a one-time code system generated by the app. Customers who have subscribed to the company’s LibertyX option will select the ATM they wish to use, send bitcoins to be sold to an address provided by the app, and use an access code at the ATM that will complete the transaction. Finally, they can collect their dollars.

The aim of the system is to “support consumers, issuers and merchants with solutions that connect digital to physical infrastructure,” said Stuart Mackinnon, Atleos’ chief operating officer.

“One of the remaining barriers to greater consumer adoption of bitcoin is the ability to easily and effortlessly move from bitcoin to cash without waiting days or dealing with the complexity of wire transfers,” said Chris Yim, CEO of LibertyX.

NCR Atleos’ LibertyX app will allow you to find an ATM via an integrated location system. It will show the opening and closing hours, proximity and fees charged by the ATM. In New York, for example, many CVS stores already have these ATMs.
