Bayesian, a new testimony emerges: “I saw what happened, no one had ever dropped anchor there”

Rosalia Orlando, owner of the Porticello shipyard, was interviewed for two hours by investigators: “I saw the sails flapping, even though there was a storm.” Investigators are trying to extract the video of that night from the shipyard’s camera, the closest to where the sailing ship was moored. In the meantime, the captain of the sunken yacht, James Cutfield, has returned to Mallorca, where he lives.

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
Porticello (Palermo) –
They sprout a new video and a new witness of the shipwreckThe video is from the camera at the Porticello shipyard closest to the point where the vessel was moored. Bayesian. The witness is Rosalia Orlando, the very tough owner of the same shipyard, who ten days after the tragedy, pushed by some of her customers, he decided to tell what he saw that night.

We meet her with some fishermen under the roof of this historic storage facility. «The camera is that one there, the Coast Guard came to take it, I haven’t seen the images yet but they are certainly interesting because it frames that stretch of sea. I I saw with my own eyes what happened“. What do you mean? “The boat was moving and swinging, as if it were shaking, perhaps it was being pulled by the anchor that was plowing into the bottom… I also saw some sails flapping… then the mast went out and went down the other side.”

Sails? With the storm? The others nod: “Rosalia knows what she’s talking about.” Who knows. She had been checking the sailing ship since the night before. “No one had ever dropped anchor there, too exposed a point, I even told the Coast Guard guy. “Rosalia, you don’t decide where to anchor,” he replied.

She returned to the shipyard in the middle of the night. “To load the tank, I do it every other day. Around 4. The water came in buckets. I went to the dock just to see the sailing ship, because that one had remained there, instead of giving the chain and engine».

In the meantime, New Zealand captain James Cutfield, commander of the Bayesian, has lifted anchor from the hotel where he has been locked up since the day of the shipwreck. Crutch, baseball cap, his wife Cristina at his side, he left Sicily on a private flight. Destination: Spain. He will return to Mallorca where he lives and from there he will wait to hear the results of the investigation that sees him under investigation for shipwreck and multiple manslaughter. The other crew members also went away with him.

Witness heard

The Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the first two autopsies which will be performed on Saturday. The outcome seems obvious. They drowned in a desperate attempt to escape from their cabins, which suddenly became a death trap.

We have learned that, following the statements made to Corriere della Sera, Rosalia Orlando was interviewed for over two hours by the Port Authority investigating the sinking of the Bayesian.
