Vignettes, fines, exemptions… Five questions to avoid being sanctioned by the ZFE

1 Do you need a Crit’air sticker?

From April and the date of implementation of the Low Emission Mobility Zone (ZFE-m) of Métropole, a Crit'air sticker affixed to your vehicle will be compulsory for driving and parking within the area concerned. In Brest, only so-called “unclassified” vehicles, that is to say not eligible for the six levels of Crit'air stickers (E, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), will be prohibited. For passenger cars, this only concerns those registered before December 31, 1996.

  • 2 How to obtain these stickers?

How to obtain these famous stickers? Only one possible route: the national website (www.certificat-air.gouv.fr). The site offers an online simulator which allows you to check whether your vehicle is eligible for a sticker. Ordering it will cost €3.81 per vehicle, including €0.70 postage. To order your sticker, you must have your registration certificate or registration document in front of you. And the operation will not have to be repeated: a vehicle retains its classification throughout its life.

Furthermore, affixing a Crit'air sticker on your vehicle that does not correspond to the characteristics of this vehicle is punishable by a fine of €135.

  • 4 Who can benefit from an exemption?

National exemptions are already planned. They concern vehicles carrying a parking card for disabled people, but also those said to be of “general interest”: police, gendarmerie, customs, firefighters, mobile hospital units, EDF-GRDF interventions or even the Ministry of Defense.

Brest Métropole supplements this system with additional local exemptions: they concern in particular collector's vehicles, vehicles over 30 years old used in the context of a commercial activity, vehicles used for sporting activities or certain public services, such as maintenance of green spaces… The complete list will be specified on the website www.brest.fr

  • 5 What is the ZFE-m Pass?

The ZFE-m 24-hour Pass is another form of exemption, which allows vehicles that do not meet emissions criteria to circulate freely in the ZFE for a limited number of days per year. This solution is intended for individuals or professionals who, for economic, social or technical reasons, cannot afford to change their vehicle immediately. Here, Brest Métropole has been quite generous, since the Pass can be used up to 52 times per year, as in , or , when its use is limited to 24 times in or , and 12 in . It can be ordered on an online platform before the establishment of the ZFE.
