The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon. Mme Farman, a very involved lawyer in Quebec, was selected after a recruitment process. “Me Farman, who will take office on 1is February 2025, knows the realities and challenges of the Port of Quebec, since she was president of its board of directors since last June and has been a member since 2020. The new president and CEO also has good knowledge of the region of the Capitale-Nationale and its economic and social issues,” the Port said in a press release.

She will succeed Mario Girard, who was appointed general delegate of Quebec in Tokyo. Mr. Girard has served as President and CEO of the Port since 2011. He will leave his position on February 14. He wanted the arrival of a woman at the head of the APQ, who would be open to discussing with the community.

“With the entire team, I want to continue building this connection between the port, citizens and the business community. And while so many challenges and opportunities present themselves, it seems essential to me to intensify collaboration with the partners of the St. Lawrence corridor,” declared Olga Farman in writing.

Many implications

Mme Farman passed the torch last September, after eight years at the head of the Quebec office of the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright Canada. However, she remained associated.

Her name has often been mentioned as a potential candidate for mayor, a path which she however declined, mainly for family reasons, being the mother of a young teenager.

Olga Farman was appointed independent member of the board of directors of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. She also became president of the board of directors of the Quebec Port Authority and the Fondation du Musée de la civilization.
