This is a hard blow for the employees of the Arkema France company and its Isère production site located in Jarrie. Two months after the start of a large-scale social movement, linked to the – precarious – situation of the neighbor Vencorex, the management of Arkema France announced, during a social economic committee (CSE) organized this Tuesday, January 21, the elimination of 154 positions out of the 344 located in Isère.
A social plan, “job protection” (PSE) of its real name, without precedent for the chemical activity of southern Grenoble, since it is added to the 460 jobs threatened on the Vencorex platform in Pont-de -Claix.

In a press release, Arkema France speaks of a “project to refocus the activity of its Jarrie site which will ensure its sustainability following the cessation of its salt supply by Vencorex”.
The company, which is in fact specialized in the production of chemical products, says it has “searched for viable, sustainable and competitive alternative industrial solutions to continue the activities of its Jarrie site, because the absence of an alternative supply of salt , in quantity and of a quality comparable to that of Vencorex, strongly threatened the maintenance of the activity of the entire site”.
According to Arkema France, the solutions found do not make it possible to maintain all of Jarrie's activities and have resulted in the cessation of chlorine, soda, methyl chloride and technical fluid production activities.
Employees at the Jarrie site have been on strike since January 13 and the factory has been shut down.
