The Garnets fall back into their faults

We saw a compact and very disciplined Genève-Servette against Kloten for Operation Teddy (2-0 victory). This Saturday, the Garnets fell back into their ways. They took on water everywhere, especially in the first third. Wick, Zangger, Holm scored the first three goals of the match when it was only 17 minutes old. As trouble never comes alone, Teemu Hartikainen was kicked out of the match after being guilty of slew-footing. Already orphaned by Sakari Mannienn (suspended) and Sami Vatanen (ill), they had to do without a strong reinforcement in attack for the rest of the game. When you want to make up for a three-goal deficit, losing your top scorer is not a bright idea. Especially when in the five minutes of boxplay that followed, Rappi scored a fourth goal thanks to Jensen (20th).

Robert Mayer gave way to Antti Raanta at the start of the second third, not that the Geneva goalkeeper was at fault but the goal was to taser the team. The Eagles returned to the ice with better intentions and we could believe in a turnaround. Alessio Bertaggia (22nd) and Markus Granlund (35th) restarted the match. But Störmwall gave his colors three steps ahead (39th). Really unfortunate to have conceded this goal just before the second break.

Markus Granlund once again revived Geneva’s hopes in the 48th minute when he scored twice. With two goals behind and still 13 minutes of play, we could hope to snatch a point. Unfortunately, this scenario did not happen, the fault of the well-established and opportunistic St. Gallois. Alge (55th) and Fritz (58th) annihilated the last wishes of the GSHC to secure these three points.

The rest of the program for the Grenat is as follows: return match of the CHL semi-final on Tuesday, trip to Lugano on Thursday before receiving Zug this Saturday at the Vernets.
