Coop will not extend the franchise contract linking it to The Body Shop Switzerland, which runs until the end of May.
The 108 employees concerned will be offered a job offer within the Basel cooperative, while the latter will evaluate the use by its specialized formats of the 33 vacated sales areas.
The other orange giant of Swiss retail indicates on Tuesday that “the unique positioning on the market, previously defined by the franchisor The Body Shop International Limited, no longer exists”, according to the published press release. The revitalization program implemented by the franchisor in recent years has not had the expected effects, despite the efforts and great commitment of The Body Shop Switzerland employees, Coop emphasizes.
Insolvency proceedings
The stores are located in German-speaking Switzerland, Ticino and French-speaking Switzerland, notably in Geneva, Lausanne, Crissier, Chavannes-de-Bogis, Fribourg, Bienne and Monthey.
Last February, the owner of the British cosmetics chain filed for insolvency proceedings. The Swiss subsidiary, taken over in 2010 by Coop, was not affected.
The brand’s concept, with natural and sustainable cosmetics, has since been followed by many companies in the sector, a Coop spokesperson told the AWP agency. No financial details have been revealed.
