Like the old opus, it shares its underside with the Peugeot 3008, second generation of course. However, there is nothing to distinguish them at first glance as their style differs. The strategy here has nothing to do with that of the Citroën C3 Aircross/Opel Frontera duo.
This new Grandland is growingwith a length increased to 4.65 m (+20 cm). An increase which gives it a more slender general line. It takes up the visual codes of the Experimental concept seen in August 2023 and those of the brand, notably the Vizor. The profile is more classic, but remains homogeneous and balanced, while the rear gives in to the fashion of the moment: the light strip, with the added bonus illuminated Opel lettering. Those who consider the Peugeot 3008 too spectacular could find themselves there with this German SUV.
The show is also less impressive insidebut the whole proves convincing. The driver benefits from a small instrument panel behind the steering wheel and a large 16 cm diagonal touch screen. For greater practicality, the air conditioning controls remain separate and the storage space is quite spacious. On the other hand, the finish is not as neat than on board its Sochaux cousin.
Thanks to its increased length, rear passengers are well received with space and a rather comfortable bench seat. Too bad it doesn’t slide, it simply folds into three parts (40/20/40). As for the trunk, it changes very little by cubing from 550 to 1,641 liters. The Varioflex systems of the old Zafira and Meriva are well and truly forgotten.
By taking over the STLA Medium platform from the Stellantis group, the engines it benefits from are known. Thus, nestles under the hood the 1.2 l three-cylinder petrol and 48V hybridization of 136 hp, as well as a four-cylinder 1.6 l plug-in hybrid 195 hp, capable of driving 85 km on electric power. Finally, the electric version uses a 213 hp unit associated with a 73 kWh (523 km range) or 82 kWh (585 km range) battery.
This Opel Grandland will not have an easy life since the competitors are very numerous in this segment. It can highlight an interesting price positioning (from €37,000), without really making a difference.
The Caradisiac moment
It’s nice to illuminate the grilles and logo, but this has an impact on insurance premiums. In the event of an impact, their replacement is much more expensive. The Opel Frontera is not alone in this case.
