Polestar, Seres and Cupra are the electric car brands which have seen the largest increase in the number of advertisements on 2ememain.be. Tesla, which occupies eighth place, still saw a 40% growth in the number of classified ads compared to 2023.
Here are the favorite cars of Belgians in 2024: an ever-widening gap between individuals and professionals
“The increase in the supply of electric cars is a positive development. The increase in supply lowers prices, which makes electric driving more accessible to a greater number of Belgians,” explains Aleksandra Vidanovski, Senior Communications & PR Manager chez 2ememain. “NWe expect supply to increase further as many electric utility vehicles hit the used market soon. This will positively influence both supply and price developments.”
The most popular car and a surprising dream car
Each year, 2ememain.be determines the cars that generate the most interest based on the number of times an ad is viewed on average. This year, the Chinese brand Hongqi is surprisingly the number one “dream car” in Belgium, with the highest number of views per ad. The top three is completed by BYD and Lotus, which have also attracted the attention of Belgian car enthusiasts.
Why the electric car struggles to convince individuals
In addition, the annual report presents more expected results. For example, Volkswagen is still the most popular car brand on 2ememain.be in 2024, with the Volkswagen Golf as the most searched model. Belgians seem to have a strong preference for sturdy German cars, since the five most viewed car brands are of German origin: Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Opel.
Another notable fact, the average price of a used car fell by 4% in 2024 compared to 2023: in 2024, the latter amounted to 15,234 euros for a used car, while it was of 15,857 euros in 2023.
