NB Liquor management had to resolve to close all of its corporate branches for a good portion of Wednesday and Thursday.
“Due to issues with our point of sale system, ANBL corporate stores are temporarily closed. In the meantime, you can make your purchases from our ANBL agents and in grocery stores,” the Crown corporation initially indicated in a brief message published Wednesday on social networks and its Facebook page.
Thursday afternoon, NB Alcohol lifted the veil somewhat on the difficulties it faces.
“Late on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, our security checks detected anomalies in our system. We immediately called on our external expert partners and launched an investigation to identify the possibility of a cyber threat. As a precautionary measure during the investigation, we have made the decision to close our systems,” said the management of the New Brunswick Liquor Corporation through its CEO, Lori Stickles.
The company finally reopened its branches late Thursday afternoon, without however offering the possibility of making purchases by electronic payment.
In Beresford, as in other places elsewhere in the province, many customers encountered closed doors Wednesday and Thursday, ignoring the closure notice that had been decreed late Wednesday morning.
-Still at the Beresford shopping center branch, around ten people impatiently waited Thursday afternoon for the opening of the business which finally took place shortly after 3 p.m.
An employee on site indicated that employees were still at work during the two days of disruption and were assigned to tasks such as store maintenance.
Meanwhile, Cannabis NB was also dealing with technical issues at its branches.
In a message released Wednesday afternoon, the provincial agency said branches will only accept cash until further notice.
All branches remained open despite these problems.
