In as in Japan or the United States, the Mitsubishi range is now limited to city cars, family cars or SUVs with a quiet vocation. A generalist brand, in short, which no longer seeks to play in the field of slightly unusual cars.

Not so long ago, however, we also knew Mitsubishi for its sports machines, some of which contributed to writing the legend of rallying and exciting road cars to drive. On the occasion of the Rétromobile 2025 show, the diamond brand (which could form a new alliance with Nissan and Honda by next year) will recall this rather glorious past.

The Lancer Evolution and the Dakar Pajero

“A selection of iconic models that have marked the history of Mitsubishi Motors will be visible on the stand. Among them, the legendary Lancer Evolution, symbol of performance and passion for racing and the no less famous Pajero, king of rally raids and witness to the pioneering and sporting spirit of Mitsubishi. Thus, Jutta Kleinschmidt’s Pajero, winner of the Dakar rally in 2001, will be among the vehicles on display. For the record, Jutta is the first and only woman to date to have won this demanding rally, giving Mitsubishi the 6th of its 12 victories in total in this competition. Mitsubishi Motors is still today the most successful manufacturer in the history of the Dakar rally”specifies Mitsubishi a few days before the opening of the show.

Let us recall in passing that Jutta Kleinschmidt also finished third in the general classification of the Dakar in 2005 with the Volkswagen Race Touareg diesel.
