Weather report
A major winter storm threatens the United States, the National Weather Service warned Saturday, with freezing temperatures leading to heavy snowfall and icy roads for more than 55 million Americans. Warnings were issued from Montana in the northwest to the east coast.
The eastern half of the country will be particularly affected by this storm which will cause the mercury to drop at least until Monday, according to the weather service (NWS), which warns that several states will experience a blizzard. This violent and icy wind, loaded with snow, will be unleashed in the center of the country from Sunday morning, and could make any road travel “extremely dangerous”, he added, specifying that the mercury would be around -20°C in places.

For some central states, snow accumulation could exceed 33 cm, which would be a record in more than ten years. More than 2 feet of snow is potentially expected in New York and Pennsylvania, according to the NWS.
The possibility of freezing rain also worries authorities, due to its potential impact on roads and the power grid. A large power outage would have devastating effects for residents who would be without heat in the middle of a winter storm. The Appalachian massif, already hit by a cataclysmic hurricane at the end of September, is particularly at risk.
