Although the count of 550,835 units is only that of the first 9 months of 2024, everything indicates that the Ford F-150 will end the year in first place in vehicle sales in the American market. Big event? Quite routine, actually, since the F-150 has been America's favorite pickup for 47 years. Better: it has even been the best-selling vehicle in the country, all categories combined, for… the last 43 years! The F-150 is therefore to the USA what a Clio, a Peugeot 208 or a Dacia Sandero is to Europe.
Not so fast…
Ford explains this success (to be qualified by a decline of 3.9% compared to the same period of 2023) by the fact that the F-150 range offers something for everyone, from gasoline to 100% electric, in going through diesel and hybrid. But on the side of General Motors, we contest this triumphalism. Supporting figures, the giant shows that the combined sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra (two vehicles as similar as a Citroën Berlingo and a Peugeot Partner) exceed those of the Ford, with more than 640,000 units. Not wrong, but they're still two brands. The name Ford F-150 therefore remains the favorite of the Ricans.
