The EDF has sent a warning message to many French people, it should be taken very seriously

The energy supplier has predicted bad news for thousands of customers.

At EDF, Christmas is well and truly over. The time for gifts is over and the days after the holidays are not happy. The electricity supplier has just sent an SMS and an email alert to thousands of French people to inform them of bad news. If, on the surface, some might believe that this is a false message and an impersonation of the company, this is not the case. This is indeed a signal to be taken very seriously.

On cell phones and in mailboxes, a message arrived late in the morning, indicating “Tomorrow, Friday December 27, 2024 is a RED TEMPO day”. Those who have received it should not ignore this communication as it could have a serious impact on their finances.

As indicated in the EDF alert, it is the French who hold a “Tempo” electricity contract who are concerned. This represents approximately 875,000 households. This offer allows you to benefit from attractive rates most of the year. However, on certain days – those marked “red” – the price of kWh soars and can very quickly cause the bill to skyrocket. It is therefore strongly recommended to use electricity as little as possible on these days.

In fact, this December 27, the price will be almost multiplied by 5. Instead of paying €0.1609/kWh, customers will pay €0.7562/kWh. For example, for two people living in a 60m² apartment, daily consumption is, on average, 13kWh. This therefore represents €2.09 in the first case, compared to €9.83 in the context of a red day. In a 120m² house with four occupants, the average consumption is 30kWh. The bill therefore amounts to €4.83 in normal times, compared to €22.69 on a “red” day.

In order to limit costs, it is therefore better to postpone the washing machine or dishwasher, lower the heating by 1°C and unplug electronic devices as much as possible.

The duration of red days is not known since this is only decided the day before and can last up to five consecutive days. So be careful with your consumption.
