The idea of creating a farmers' market was born from the desire, in 2011, of the members of the association of farmer producers of Doller and Soultzbach which had just been created, to carve out a place for themselves in the peasant landscape of the territory. “We wanted to meet in the same place to make our productions known,” explains Hubert Behra, president of the association. Since then, from April to September, every second Thursday of the month, producers meet in Masevaux-Niederbruck. “As the reception from the public was good,” explains the farmer-innkeeper of Baerenbach, “we decided to meet again for one last market of the year, the Sunday before Christmas. The idea was successful and the tradition remained. »
Excellent visibility
A tradition which, even if it has changed site over time, continues to the great pleasure of the regulars, delighted their producers after a two-month truce: “We were first in the old premises of the The tourist office, then at the Pampilles farm, continues the farmer. Since COVID, we have been based on the Place des Alliés. » An ideal location, right in the center of the city of Mason, which ensures excellent visibility for this event enriching the end-of-year festivities in the capital of Doller.
“Show our unity”
Meats, cold meats, cheeses, honey, medicinal plants and syrups make up the range of local products offered by the dozen exhibitors. A few specialties expand the usual range this season, like so many gourmet suggestions for the holidays. For the latest arrival within the association, “this Christmas farmers' market is also an opportunity for producers to get together, unlike the rest of the time when we each work in our own corner”. “This is the opportunity to show our unity,” considers Laetitia Koenig, from the Kraitland farm, “to show that we are not competitors, but farmers who do the same job. »
