(Ecofin Agency) – Via the launch of its own reinsurance company, the pan-African group founded by the late Pathé Dione aims to guarantee « protection optimale » of its 26 insurance subsidiaries.

The pan-African bancassurance group, Sunu Group, announced in a press release published on Monday, December 16, that it had obtained approval from the Regional Insurance Control Commission, the regulatory authority for the insurance sector in the CIMA zone (Inter-African Conference). insurance markets), to launch a reinsurance company.

Named Sunu Réassurance (Sunu Ré), this company will have a capital of 5 billion FCFA (8 million FCFA), the same source said, indicating that “the creation of this limited company with a board of directors based in Abidjan is part of the development strategy of the Sunu group to ensure optimal protection of its insurance subsidiaries.”

The Sunu group also revealed that the Regional Insurance Control Commission has issued a favorable opinion concerning the appointment of Roland Ouédraogo and Issofa Ncharé respectively to the positions of general manager and chairman of the board of directors of Sunu Ré.

Founded in 1998 by the Franco-Senegalese businessman, the late Pathé Dione, Sunu Group is one of the largest pan-African players in the bancassurance sector. The group is present in 17 countries, including Mali, Niger, Cameroon, Ghana and the Central African Republic, through 26 insurance companies, two banks, two assistance companies and two specialized companies.

Sunu Group, which has 1.2 billion euros in assets under management, claims a turnover of more than 500 million euros in 2023.
