The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ANRT) has confirmed that the award of licenses to Starlink and OneWeb is planned for 2025, a move aimed at strengthening connectivity in isolated areas of Morocco. But this remains an ongoing project. For the moment, no official authorization has been granted and no infrastructure is in place to provide these services to Moroccans.

Despite publications from certain media suggesting that Starlink is already active in Morocco, the official service availability map clearly shows that the Kingdom is not yet among the covered areas. The information relayed about a SpaceX subsidiary in Casablanca is accurate, but it concerns administrative preparations, not an immediate launch.

With advertised speeds between 100 and 500 Mbps and low latency, Starlink promises to connect underserved regions, such as the Atlas Mountains or desert areas. These ambitions are part of the vision of digital Morocco 2030, but major challenges persist. The high cost of equipment (around 6,500 dirhams) and subscriptions (1,100 dirhams per month) could limit access for many households.

At the same time, the impact of satellite constellations on the space environment raises concerns, particularly regarding orbital congestion and potential disruption to astronomy. These points must be addressed to guarantee sustainable and effective deployment.
