Smart Cities Circuit Design Competition

December 18, 2e smart city circuit design competition has officially started, under the chairmanship of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park Management Board, in collaboration with several other organizations. This edition expands its scope by launching events in three major cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang, to stimulate creativity, research and talent development in the field of integrated circuit design in Vietnam.

This year’s competition, themed “Double Transformation to Develop a Sustainable Green City”, provides great freedom to participants, without limiting ideas or areas, but focusing on ideation, design and manufacturing of products. The proposed microchips must be linked to activities promoting the construction of green and sustainable urbanity.

Aimed at students and trainees from Vietnamese universities, colleges and institutes with applied research projects or ideas in the field of integrated circuit design, the competition allows participants to register online via the official website: https:/ /icdesign.hochiminhcity.gov.vn.

The competition will run until May 2025 and will consist of four rounds. After a qualification phase, during the final, candidates and their teams will have to transform their ideas into complete integrated circuit design products. Throughout the process, teams will benefit from training and support from experts. The winning group of the competition will participate in a professional evaluation round, and the organizing committee will select 7 to 10 projects for the final. The evaluation criteria will focus on the applicability of the product as well as its socio-economic impact.

Incubation programs

In addition to official awards, winning projects will receive ongoing support through incubation programs, to enable them to progress towards the development and production of their products.

Lê Quôc Cuong, deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, stressed that the organization of the competition reflects the commitment to creativity, progress and sustainability. He said candidates will have the opportunity to work with experts and refine their ideas and designs via international standard software. The products will then be professionally evaluated before being submitted to a jury of companies in the final round. This process is based on an industrial ecosystem, supported by leading international partners such as the Global Semiconductor IC Association SEMI and leading companies in the design of integrated circuits, such as Cadence, Synopsys and Siemens.
