The French company KG Auto unveils its second model of license-free electric car, a small quadricycle called Le Bolide. Belonging to the 7Le category, this surprising electric vehicle can be driven from 16 years old and can venture off the beaten track.
If sales of electric cars are accelerating over the years, another market is also booming. This concerns cars without a license, whose golden age is only just beginning according to certain specialists. It is true that at present, this segment is clearly expanding, popularized by the launch of the Citroën Ami in 2020.
A fun car
Today, the offer is plentiful, including the small Ligier Myli or the new Mobilize Duo, which we were able to test recently. That’s not all, because young manufacturers are also launching into this very promising market, like Kate, who launched her Kate Original beach car last year. And now another French brand is now talking about it. This is KG Auto, which caused a sensation at the last Paris Motor Show. with his Car.
A few months later, the firm founded in 2020 and based in Haute-Savoie returns to the forefront with a brand new model. This one is called Le Bolide, and it adopts a slightly more dynamic temperament. This is also seen by its style, which reminds us a little of the spirit of Caterham and which is inspired by the Le Tube concept which was unveiled in 2023. The hood is particularly long here, while the driving position is very remote.
The vehicle, which shares 90% of its components with La Bagole, has very compact dimensions, sinceit measures 2.94 meters long 1.68 meters wide and 1.31 meters high, for a wheelbase of 2.19 meters. Fitted with 17-inch rims, the quadricycle is also equipped with two roll bars which complete its steel chassis, to ensure optimal safety for the driver. The amazing little car has no roof, no doors, no windshield.
On board, the presentation is particularly barewith a simple dashboard simply equipped with the essential buttons for the windshield wipers, the horn or even starting and reversing. The brand’s website specifies, however, that the Bolide has a small screen indicating essential information such as range and speed. Behind the seats, a small cargo space allows you to store a few belongings, and motorcycle top boxes are also offered as an optionadding 114 liters.
A 100% electric quadricycle
The new KG Le Bolide is part of category 7Le (heavy quadricycles), which means that it can be driven from the age of 16, provided that you have the B1 or B license. It then meets very strict regulations, which notably limits power to 20 horsepower. And that’s good, because the vehicle delivers 16 horsepowercoming from its two electric motors. In total, the machine weighs only 358 kilos, while its maximum speed is limited to 80 km/h.
It has a 48-volt NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) battery which gives it a maximum range of 145 kilometers, which is pretty decent. For comparison, the Citroën Ami is limited to 75 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The Bolide recharges only on a standard 220 volt socket at home, but the time required to fully fill the battery has not been communicated. A USB-A socket is also available on board to charge your smartphone.
The small all-terrain quadricycle is handmade in Franceand it is already available for pre-order from 16,900 euros. A hefty price, especially since it is now deprived of the ecological bonus of 900 euros. A limited launch series is available, recognizable by its rear spoiler and Nardo gray paint. It is also possible to print the design of your choice on the side and spend the day at the brand’s premises to assemble your car, followed by a barbecue.
